OrgaNic duality

Inspired by the challenging area of Mourne, to explore how unpredictable and difficult terrain can highlight and create a place of tranquility and calm.

Each piece of porcelain is thrown and then shook when soft. Causing natural collapse and soft concaves to occur. Thick and heavy texture is then applied to a side, creating a surface that is tough to the touch and hard against ones hand. The addition of colour further juxtaposes it to the soft smooth side left untouched and soft. It is the balance between the two that enhances one another. The rough becomes rougher beside the smooth and the smooth becomes smoother beside the rough.

This is found in nature. The area of Mourne is turbulent and harsh, with jutting rocks and steep terrains. But they create a lull. An undisturbed area of peace, where one can be calmed by the sheer greenery around them. Explaining why the challenging area is a draw for many people.
